What does the nibbling means?

Homer nibbles me all the time (especially my clothes). You know those little bites whenever he´s close enough to grab something with his mouth.

He does it when I pet him, when he wants to play, when I brush him...

My great dane used to nibble my ear while I brushed her. I though it was her way of "grooming" me while I groomed her, but Homer does it all the time. Anybody knows why this happens?

He also does it to Misha a lot (love to munch the poor girl´s ears)

Nip it (no pun intended) in the bud now. It's a sign of affection in most dogs, but some people don't understand that. I had someone screaming that Jakey bit them when he grabbed their hand. Plus some people have very thin skin and even a nibble can cause bleeding.

You have to be kidding! As soft-mouthed as Jake is?? He didn't even bend my glasses, and they're the kind with no frames. That person has no business being around Labs, that's for sure.

We call it corn-cobbing here...
Lovey bites here.... Forrest won't lovey-bite ME but nibbles his legs. Poopy does it to me, but because his bite is so off his teeth can't connect and no damage is done.

Yep, we call it corn nibbles. Theo does it to clothes only. We don't let him do it to hands or other body parts. It's especially funny--when you scratch him, he'll nibble on himself. He also enjoys nibbling on our friend's cat, who loves it.
That's funny...there's a spot on Jes's chest that if you scratch it he'll nibble his own leg. A little further down and you'll reach the thumper spot and he'll start scratching.

Chatham does it when he is really happy to see me. I always thought of it as a sign of affection. He doesn`t even do it to DH.

When I get home and am going up the stairs, he runs ahead and waits for me at the landing. I go up the stairs bent over with my hands down so at one point, him and I are eye level. He gives me a couple of nudges, then nibbles my ear, tail going a mile a minute. Then I give him a good back rub and we continue on the rest of the way up the stairs.

He also does it in the morning if I am still in bed after DH takes him out. He comes running full tilt into the bedroom (ears flapping), leaps onto the bed. He will nudge me to see if I move, if I do (meaning I am awake and getting up), he gets so excited. He does the ear nibbling then drops for a tummy rub. If I don`t move, he will lay down with me. When I move and he knows I`m getting up, we do that routine.

I knew it was a good thing! :D

I didn´t know so many dogs do it. So far of all my dogs only Homer and the Dane do it (she did), but she wasn´t as "intense" as Homer.

He also loves to nibble Misha´s ear, which I don´t like because then when I pet her she´s all full of slobber - yuck! and she got an ear infection because of Homer´s love !

True many people don´t understand it´s friendly behavior and interpret it as a bite. For me this is the problem with little kids. My two are too much for young ones.

He doesn´t hurt me at all, i have rough hands!

I have nibbler too, though its mostly the cats that are loved to death in this way, they seem to have got used it and being walked/sat on, I only get nibbled in moments of absolute bliss like when I have been missing for at least 5.... minutes.

Hi. I have 2 labs a Chocolate lab 1-year-old and a yellow lab 3 years old. The Chocolate allways nibbles on the yellow lab when he sees me petting and giving attention to the yellow lab. He looks like he's eating corn on the cob. The yellow one seems to enjoy it. He does not nibble on anyone else or other dogs, just the yellow lab and always when he sees me petting him. He seems a bit jealous, and he comes to get in the middle of it. Is it a bad sign that i should put a stop to it? what does it mean? He's also very vocal and crying when he sees me pet the other dog.
