We used to go to "Bing's Cathay Inn" in San Bernardino. It had a small Koi pond that ran the length of the entry way, complete with colored lights and fountains, and I remember that they served the hugest fried prawns that I have ever seen in my life, and I always received an almond cookie at the end of the meal.

We also like Shakeys because we could see they guys making the pizza's. Eveyone had their drinks from pitchers - root beer for the kids, and real beer for the mom's and dad's!

Bob's Big Boys! Used to love going there.

We still have Hardee's here. I never eat there but there is one right down
the street from me. I never see anyone there and can never understand how
they stay open but they are.

I used to love Shakey's when I was little!!!

and Ground Round...the one by us closed forever ago :(

Yes! H. Salt Fish and Chips. We used to go there when I was a child. I used to drown the fish in their malt vinegar. Man, it was good.

Oh, ditto to Po Folks! They had the best fried chicken livers ever.

I worked at Rax. My one and only foray into the fast food industry. I lasted a month.

Before working there I really liked their roast beefs. Aftewards, not so much. :-X

The Cafe Sputnik in Moscow, Idaho. My friends and I lived there while it was still open. It shut down during my final year of university. I also loved the Vancouver trader Vic's. It stood next to the old westin Bayshore hotel by Stanley park. There was a party just before it closed down. Everybody was there.

Kewpies was local burger joint, before the onslaught of BK and McDs. I liked that place.

Hamelines, another local, was a mix between Ice cream parlor and luncheonette. It had these really low swivel stools and counter.

Tony's pizza. This was a small pizza parlor, no seating ,take out only. Slices were 25 cents. I ate that for lunch everyday in 7th and 8th grade. Tony's still exists but it's not quite the same.

Dellers Restaurant served awesome polish and German dishes. Burnt to the ground while the cash register was out being cleaned. I think it was one of those rare insurance lightning storms. ;D

Woolworth's luncheonette. Woolworth's had these long lunch counters right inside the dept store. Dad hating taking us kids to Woolworths. We always wanted to eat there.

Most of my favorite eateries still exist today. We're lucky that area family owned restaurants stay around forever.

We had a G.C. Murphy's with a similar set-up. It was the first place I ever had a Texas Tommy (Hot dog wrapped w/bacon and served on a bun w/cheese).

We have good friends who live in NJ (Riverside) and they talk about stuff that's native JUST to their area -- that the rest of the world has never even heard of. Amy, are you familiar with Drink-a-Toast or Have-a-Boost? I had never heard of these concoctions (they like liquid Kool-Aid, from what I can gather, a super sweet syrup that can be made into a drink but also ladled over ice cream and put to other uses.)

Remember Woolworths and H.Salt

Anyone remember the Red Barn ? Or just Canuck chain?
We had a Red Barn....served burgers..fast food stuff...LOVED it. It was only a block from our house. As a kid if you found a dime on the street you could use it for a burger at lunch.....that was a real treat.

Never heard of either of those Dan. ???
