Just want to run something by you......

Rowan has been on adult food since she was about 10 month old (spayed at 9 months)... she has always had a 'stockier build' and I've always had to watch her weight.... she gets 3 cups a day of Orijen.....

Bentley.. will be 1 year old on the 19th of this month.... he is still on puppy food but I will be switching him in the next few days to adult. He is not neutured yet and is getting a total of 4 cups on the puppy Orijen formula right now....

He isn't fat... he isn't overly lean.... my question is......

So I increase the 'adult' amount I will give him over what he is getting in the puppy formula now being that it is less fat? (Don't laugh if I am completely off base....lol. Never had a pupper go so long without being fixed....and I want to be really conscious and not have a fat dog either..kwim.

TIA

Check the website for the kcals. (calories per cup). If they're close then you prolly won't increase the adult food that much. If the puppy has a lot more calories per cup, then yes you will increase it. I'd start out increasing by a half cup if the kcals are a lot lower for the adult and see how he does on that.

Wow - I just looked up what Diesel is consuming daily in calories on Wellness Core. 430 kcal/cup and he is eating just under 6 cups daily and has maintained his weight of 80 lean pounds for the past year.

Holy Metabolism, Batman!
Goes to show you every dog is different in how they metabolize their food. Just like people. All my dogs get relatively the same amount of food. Even my tiny little Cinder. But she stays very thin. I think her meds have something to do with that....no a lot to do with that.
