I know I have read other post on this subject but the other night I noticed Willow has grown a few white hairs on top of her head. I’m pretty sure I would have noticed these before where she is black the white stands out pretty good. It’s not much just 5 or so.

She’s just about 2 now.

I have seen many pedigreed black labs with white hair on their toes, a few small white spots on their chests. HK has two areas, about 4-5 hairs each, that are white between her right eye and ear flap.

I believe the stray white hairs that suddenly appear are often due to "trama" or scarring on the skin below. Poor Darwin has quite a few white hairs on his head and neck from being tugged on by the naughty youngsters.

Spots where HK has white hairs were bald at one point, probably due to a trauma discussed long ago. Vet said at the time, her fur would probably grow back but may be white from the trauma. I guess that supports your theory.

I didn't realise that the white hairs that pop up randomly could be caused from trauma, that would explain KCs "white patches" having been run over by a quad bike on the beach, had barbed wire stuck in her leg, swallowed a drawing pin amongst other things - she should be an albino by now? ;D
