I'm abit confused with the two. Yogurt is good for their digestive system if I understand correctly. Rocky gets 1 tablespoon of regular yogurt (no additives) a day. Should I be buying a brand with added supplements or is the natural "active" culture what they need.

Do probiotics have the same effect? Or are they something else? If it is the same, is it better to use probiotics as opposed to yogurt?

The food i feed indicates there are probiotics, but they are way at the bottom of the ingredient list so I assume adding more is not an issue

Finally, is there a possibility I am feeding him TOO MUCH yogurt (he will be 3 at the end of the month)

Plain yogurt with active cultures is fine - you don't need to add anything.

Probiotics basically have the same effect as yogurt, although I do think they probably have more and different strains of probiotics than yogurt does. Feed whatever is easier for you. When I give yogurt instead of probiotic pills I give a tablespoon or 2 with dinner, ,so I don't think you are overdoing it.

I do the yogurt too, and the boys love it. I only do it like once a week though because I thought it would be too much for their system. How often is OK?

Yogurt alone usually does not have enough of the "live" cultures in it to make a big difference. They would have to eat a heck of a lot of yogurt to make up for the amount you would be in giving a straight probiotic supplement. With that being said, I have 2 of mine of probiotics all the time; I order the powder form from B-naturals.

I guess the deciding point is if you think your dog needs a big dose, do the probiotics. If not, the yogurt is fine. It's kind of like glucosamine in food or do you supplement it on your own. If your dog doesn't have problems, having it in the food probably isn't a bad thing. But if you are needing to supplement your dog, you had better do it with the individual pills.
