I got my tax return back today (also thank you to direct deposit). I now have plans to go buy a few shirts for work, a few items from work (lol) and perhaps a Beta fish!

Woah... really? There is a state doing that?

They're doing it in California. The state budget is MONTHS overdue and apparently there is no authority to send the money back without one.

I don't know anybody who has filed. Those who owe don't want to write the check before they have to, and those who should get refunds aren't bothering to file early since there is no advantage to it.
