Those of you who know me know I do not often as for help - but this time - considering the Pet in Need is a lab - I thought I would post.

Today WIK was contacted by the Montana Veterinary Specialists about a 5 y old yellow lab named Lucky - she is 5 years old and suffering from Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) - without surgical intervention in the next 24 hours Lucky will be permanently paralyzed from the neck back and will have to be euthanized.

The owner is a young man who is doing all he can but cannot pay for the MRI and surgery that will need to be performed at WSU Vet School tomorrow without help from WIK.

Without WIK Lucky would have been euthanized this afternoon – I couldn’t let that happen – what Lucky needs is what WIK was founded to do – do for another what I could not do for 2 I loved with all my heart – give them a chance at another tomorrow – thousands to fill with love, joy and happiness. My Sammy died in 2003 from an inoperable spinal tumor – his condition could not be treated – his life could not be spared – Lucky’s can.

Mother’s Day is around the corner – the weather is beautiful – it’s time to celebrate life – and help Lucky –

Kate, am I correct in saying that WIK has already funded Lucky's treatment? Or do you need immediate funds for tomorrow? I am just a little confused on the timeline from reading your post. ???

By the way, I am ordering a treat tote. Thank you for starting such a wonderful organization.

WIK committed to paying for Lucky's surgery - even though I don't have all the funds raised (yet) - I wil find the way to raise the funds

Bump for a good cause. :angel: If you've ever had to face the decision of expensive treatment to save a pet, you can imagine how hard it would be to know you don't have the funds to even have that option. :'(

What about a 'human' bake sale? I think the funds would come in faster that way? Or you could get in contact with the girl and boy scouts or something and tell them Lucky's story; I'm sure they would want to help raise some funds for him if you ask them. They raise a lot of money selling their cookies and other things faster than anything I have ever seen. Or even hold a photo day? Pet pictures maybe?

I wish I could donate but I don't have any money. I'm about to go to school and I have to go through FASFA just to get in and get it paid for.

Thanks for the suggestion - as an FYI - I am in VA - the pet in need is in Montana - I do all my fundraising off hours as I have a fulltime job and a family - you can buy treat totes from WIK with either OMH dog treats or 100% organic, peanut free people cookies...

Who would have imagined 24 hours after I posted my request asking for your support (and prayers) for Lucky the Labrador – I would be writing to tell you that she arrived safely at WSU Vet School/Hospital in Pullman Washington (after a 6 hour drive from Montana) this afternoon. Jayme, Lucky’s Vet Tech from Montana Veterinary Specialists drove her to WA and is now on her way home (now that’s one dedicated vet Tech….)

Lucky has had her MRI and will have a spinal tap tomorrow so that the medical team can be more conclusive about what they need to do next – but she is safe and being tended to by a great team of Veterinary professionals.

The best news is that thanks to many of you who stepped forward and did some extra shopping and one very generous donor in CA (who I have never met in person but I am convinced he has one very large and glistening pair of angel wings) the entire $4,500 needed has been raised… a pretty amazing feat for 24 hours. I know of quite a few dogs who will not be wanting for Old Mother Hubbard’s yummy biscuits or WIK tote bags for some time to come.

2.5 years after this journey began – I am still humbled and amazed by the compassion and support that is demonstrated daily for WIK Pets in Need. I cannot begin to thank you for the miracles you each have had a hand in playing – And the journey has really only just begun.

The Treat Tote arrived yesterday and it is very nice. Kody is enjoying the biscuits, my wife has claimed the tote as her new lunch bag, and we all are happy we could help WIK.

Have you had any updates on Lucky's condition?
