I don't get this. Detroit doesn't have a higher than average Jewish population. We do have a higher than average Arab population, the highest outside of the middle-east.

So that asshat saying that doesn't make sense.

My opinion is we must have lax security here so they're trying to exploit it.

I dunno. I mean, Miami has a larger Jewish population than Detroit. You are right, we do have the largest Arabic population outside of the Middle East. They were still questioning the guy, but they have him in Miami.

Sounds like an opportunist follow-on wannabe to me. Since Detroit is currently in the headlines, it made sense to him. Had he done the same thing to a different city, he might have been written off as yet another nutcase (which will probably happen anyway).

Well, unfortunately his comments make sense to me. I taught ESL and we had a lot of students from the middle East. Most knew that they couldn't say that, but some you had to tell.

The cops are SO bad when you drive down I-94 to the thru the airport....I always thought it was "screening security".....maybe not. I don't understand this either.....something fishy is going on. I SUSPECT Detroit is actually a diversion, if anything. Really, why would they care about Detroit? It's the armpit of America! I know, I lived there. I hope it ISN'T a target though....all of my family lives in 313 area code (almost Detroit proper).

I doubt Detroit is a target. It is a hub and happens to have enough international flights. These crackpots just want to attack the US and get their 50 virgins or whatever. This is just an example of what misguided extremists on any subject can do if brainwashed by leaders that are too chicken to do this crap themselves. I wish they would, it would solve the problem.

I have to fly out of Detroit on Sunday morning. This makes me a little nervous. The few times I have flown into Newark I was nervous also.

I picked up a friend from the airport (coming from Miami, from Grenada) last night, and they said security wasn't really ramped up at all.

I think its more Detroit's proximity to me that makes it a threat
