Since I moved to Kansas, I seem to get an allergy attack about 2x over the summer. I mean one that pretty well sets me down. I was allergic as a kid, but I thought that was long since behind me. I had 2 attacks the first summer I was here (2007), one or two last summer, and I just had one last weekend. I have an appointment with an allergist on 04 June.

Well, at least I have my three furbies to take care of me :)

I'm guessing you mean pollen allergies. A lot of the plants that developed on the prairie are wind pollenated which between that and the wind means you will have big time trouble.

I'm lucky and don't have that problem I can kick around in ragweed in bloom and it not bother me.

Now several antibiotics, pennicillian type mold and bee stings, that's a whole 'nuther story. Good luck with the allergist.

*raises hand*

I'm allergic to just about everything....dogs, horses, hay, grass, pollen, trees, flowers, dust. I take zyrtec once a day but I still get stuffed up and have nose bleeds almost daily.

Me here, Guy - I take a reactine daily in the spring/summer and every other day in the winter, or thereabouts. Used to be I couldn't go outside some days as I couldn't stop sneezing, and would want to claw my eyes and throat out from the itching. I've had allergy shots, but stopped - the reactions I'd get when we upped the dosage wasn't worth it anymore to me!

what problems did you have when they upped the dosage? I hope I'm not going thru all this allergy shot baloney for nothing.
I went for allergy shots years ago - like 30. It may be different now, but what would happen to me when they upped the dosage was that I would have a reaction including stuffiness, tiredness, headache and generally feeling crappy. Would last most of the day.

Plus - after years of shots I had a lot of scar tissue in my arms. It has since gone away.

Some people get a lot of relief from shots - so I am not trying to dissuade you, but I stopped too because I did not want to write off one day a week.

I am allergy girl. ever since I was a kid. I went through allergy shots as a kid that helped.
In the past 2 years or so I have increasingly bad reactions that involve skin around my face and eyes. Allergic conjunctivitis this past winter and last week my face and eyes swelled up so much after mowing the lawn even Zyrtec and benedryl was useless. Time and icepacks were the only thing that worked.
I have an appointment with an allergist in June to talk about what is going on. My reactions are becoming more severe and unpredictable.
Let us know what your allergist says Guy. I am curious.

Don't dismiss the shots...seriously they worked for me. I did them in my early 20s and my allergies aren't nearly as bad. The environmental ones, that is. I'm still very allergic to certain animals like cats and horses...and somewhat to dogs...but really I don't have to take meds even close to as often as I used to. :)
