I work in a rec facility. I just applied for and got a fulltime maintenance postition.:):) The only problem is I now have to take the Class 5 power engineer with refrigeration endorsement in order to be qualified for the position. I'm about 1/2 way through the course and it is mind boggling. At 46 years old I hope I'm not too old to understand and absorbe all the information required to pass a 7 hour 300 question provincial exam. I just had to do 2 drawings, a possitive displacement compressor and a jet stream refrigeration system. My brain feels like scrambled eggs.

Get a mentor -- someone in the field who can tutor you. That's the time honored way of advancing. Don't try to do it all on your own.

Both of my co-workers have the course so I'm not totally on my own they have been very helpful so far answering my questions etc. I just hope I can retain all the information required to pass the test.

All I can say is . . . HUH???? Not my cup of tea for sure. You must be really, really smart!!
Not really smart just really tired of Permanent part time Labourer/Janitor. When the maintenance position came up I figured I'd give it a shot. To my suprise they gave me the job under the condition that I get the 5th class. I have to finish the course by May 31 and pass the exam by Aug 31. Finishing the course isn't a problem but the exam from what I've been told is grueling.

It's all worth it if you get to drive the Zamboni.
