I just got a call here at work.

Person: "I am doing a research proposal and need to know how big is a Grey Kite, how much do they eat and what do they eat".

Me: (searching through my North American Raptor books and not finding anything). "Hmmm, I am not finding anything, and that does not sound familiar. Where are these birds from?"

Person: "Japan"

Me: "Well, no wonder it did not sound familiar! Let me check my Raptors of the World book"

Did finally find out it will eat about 10 % of it's body weight each day, and will eat almost anything, second only to Vultures in eating anything. They have a three foot wing span, and weigh about 2 pounds. Apparently in Japan they are getting pesky and will grab food right out of people's hands! Imagine a bird that big coming and grabbing your hamburger right of your hand!!!

We have Ibis here that do that. I HATE them. If you're eating around them, they'll grab your food out of your hand & then come back for seconds.

When we lived in a more rural area they used to sit on our fence near our dining table window and watch us eat. Cheeky cheeky buggers!!

When did you learn that song Allie??

Seems to me they used to have it on Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid.

ooooh ok!!!

Here is a photo I took in the Hawaiian Zoo of a kookaburra. I have a fantastic photo of one in Australia Zoo that I will have to post here when I get home. It's a beautiful photo... such a beautiful (but cheeky!) bird.
