Anyone have vertigo? My Mom called me today to say she got dizzy and fell. I left work and took her to the hospital. They feel she has vertigo. But, her blood pressure was 198/101, pulse 104 and she had a nose bleed. They gave her meds to bring down blood pressure and meds for vertigo and sent her home. I couldn't talk her into staying with me, so she is home alone. I can't find anywhere that vertigo would cause the blood pressure problem.

i had it for about a year but it was only bad when i lay in bed and turn my head a certain way. it all came to a head about 5 months ago, when i got so dizzy that i almost fell in the shower and couldn't close my eyes because i would vomit from the dizzy spells. went to the doctor's right away and they checked out my hearing (could have been a cause for it but that was fine) and gave me some antivert pills that i took for a few days. found that i had a few "rocks" in my ears that had become misaligned and needed to be put back. my mom's friend did the procedure one evening by laying me back and tilting my head to different sides for so many seconds and after the second time doing this, i was back to normal. doctor said it could have happened on an airplane ride or some other violent head movement. it's not a great feeling and i don't wish it on my worst enemy. hope your mom feels better soon.

Seems a lot more likely that the blood pressure would cause the dizziness rather than the other way around. I'd sure get her to her primary care doc who probably knows her history better. Your mom sounds a lot like my mom, mine wouldn't have stayed with me either. She thinks everything is just too much fuss.

I have been dealing with it this winter. My doctor gave me some "exercises" to do in the morning before I get out of bed. Those seemed to help. She also gave me antivert which helps also.

Funny, I stopped taking a medication about 3 weeks ago ... and my vertigo has gone away.

RetrieverMama has vertigo too. She was having a terrible time with it last year from memory. You might want to message her?
cheers Sarah

Thanks guys. Mom was put on Antivert and told she might have to see a specialist to re arrange the rocks. I'm more concerned about the blood pressure. She had one small stroke several years ago. There is NO way I will be able to convince her to do anything she doesn't want to do. I begged her last night to keep her medical alert necklace ON HER BODY. It is usually in a drawer.

No. But I've seen the Hitchcock movie.

Actually, it's my least favorite Hitch.

I agree with golfrobin. I think it was the blood pressure making her dizzy. I hope she agrees to see her doctor. Good luck Linda.

I'd say her blood pressure caused her dizziness and there's probably not any vertigo.

What did the doctor use to diagnose vertigo?

Just seeing this now. How scary for you and your mom. I have had a few bouts with vertigo, but it usually only lasts a week and is not related to high blood pressure. They haven't been able to diagnose what is causing it for me.

It may have been caused by the high blood pressure. Can you talk to her doctor?

I have positional vertigo but it hasn't bothered me in a very long time. The antivert did nothing for me. It just kinda went away. They did all kinds of tests on me to find the source, MRI, CT, hearing test, balance test cocular test and nothing revealing anything. The Doc's answer was to eat a low salt diet.
