Okay so a while ago I got Abbey a new dog bed. She has two now, but Toby normally uses the other one.

The new one is one of those donut-shaped beds and she loves to curl up in a ball so it's her favorite thing ever. Her other one is one of those orthopedic cushioned ones that's just rectangular shaped.

Sylvester doesn't care about the rectangular one but he keeps peeing on the donut-shaped one.. It's the only thing he's ever peed on and he did it before and after he was neutered and also before and after Toby came.

Luckily I can wash the outer shell, but the inside padding isn't washable. I've sprayed everything all over it.. Resolve Pet, OxiClean Pet and some other pet stain remover stuff.

I caught him in the act once and squirted him with water but the water has NO effect on him at all.

Should I just throw out the $40 bed and call it a day or do you think I can rig it somehow so he won't go near it? Any ideas?!

hmmm...interesting that he only pees there and no where else in the house. If it were me, I guess I would try to wash the bed and see what happens to it. If it gets more ruined, then toss, as that's what you were going to do anyways.

As far as getting him to stop, I have no suggestions, sorry.

Yeah, I think i'm going to wash it again. I was going to try to rig it and put plastic bags over the padding inside, so that way if he does it again, I just wash the outer shell... That would be uncomfortable for Abbey, maybe, but oh well.

Could be possible he is still smelling himself I would chuck the bed and get Abbey a new one if you can

image my surprise when koda bled all over her ortho bed, i opened it up to find it was only the egg crate foam.

That was expensive foam!

Sorry.. that's unrelated but it's expensive bedding, so i can sympathise.

Yeah I want to avoid buying another one if he's just going to piss on another one...

This bed cost me $40 so I want to try to get rid of the smell instead of just throwing it out... if it keeps happening I might have to.. Abbey just LOVES it.

No, he was neutered a while ago. I thought maybe that had an effect, but he peed on the bed before and after he was neutered.

I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the texture of the bed.. like how it sinks in or something? But then maybe not, since he doesn't pee on pillows or anything.

I asked the vet when I went in to get him neutered and she said it may be something related to dominance?

Teddy had a bed like that and Ivy and Emily peed on it constantly. I threw it away and so far they haven't been peeing on anything else as a substitute (that I know of). The stuffing was ruined after the first pee and I wish I had just thrown it away then.

I would seriously consider tossing the bed. I know, $40 down the drain. However, cat urine is almost impossible to remove. Even if you wash it, Sylvester may still smell 'himself' on the bed.

And if he continued to pee on the bed, it could become habit-forming.

My male kitty, Scooter, whom we have had for 10 years, started urinating in inappropriate places when we moved to our new home. At first, we chocked it up to stress. After a few months, and the cat wasn't stressed, we realized it could be medical-related (I know, bad cat-parents.) After several vet visits and several hundred dollars, it was determined that Scooter was completely healthy. More money, visits to other veterinarians, litter-boxes strewn throughout the house, Feliway plug-ins and sprays, and 18 months later and the cat still pisses in various areas of the house. It's behavioral, say the veterinarians. Other then a surgery which actually alters the cat making him urinate like a female, there is nothing we can do. It is seriously infuriating. My house is not a litter-box.

Ok-I am sorry for the rant. You probably didn't want all that information. lol We love Scootie, he is our first pet together. But hubby is losing patience. And I don't want that to happen to you.

Yeah, we had an old cat that did that.. peed everywhere and it got worse and worse as he got older.

I tried a new product that is supposed to stop them from urinating in the same spot again. If it happens again, I'm going to get rid of it. Fingers crossed!!!
