What do you do when one of the dogs has tummy issues?
Zeus is sick DH said he asked to be let out twice over night and he asked to be let out several times while I was getting ready for work this morning. I'd already fed him because I didn't know he was sick over night. We asked BIL to let him out during the day today and he just called and said he threw up 5x in the den (on the carpet of course). He tried to clean it up bless his heart but he said it was a mess. DH is going to try to leave work after a meeting he was heading to and go home. Normally I take them in to the vet hospital by our house it's 24 hour and very reasonably priced. They give them some type of shot to settle their stomach and some pepcid normally and send us home. I normally give them rice for a few meals until it seems to have quit then give them a little food and see how it goes. Should I take him to the vet right away or give him until tomorrow and see if he gets better on his own. I will not give him supper and let his belly rest tonight at least and I have some pepcid at home which is what the vet said to give him before.

Poor Zeus! I hope he feels better.

Normally - and only if I'm SURE there's no possibility of either blockage or fever - I'll give them a pepcid and fast them for 24 hours and then go to plain boiled rice for a day or two. Then slowly introduce bland boiled meat like chicken or ground beef to the rice. But that's also if they're drinking water normally, dehydration can happen fairly quickly. If you're at all worried about fever, blockage, or dehydration, a trip to the vet is probably a good idea.

Toby was just sick for 24 hours, too. I figured it was eating dead leaves and drinking pond water at the dog park. But he harfed a number of times (unusual for him) and had zero appetite (highly unusual for him). But he was pooping OK and drinking water, so we took a watch-and-wait approach and he was fine. I hope Zeus is on the mend just as simply and quickly!

Is he drinking any water, Barb?

If so, I would probably be inclined to rest his tummy until tomorrow morning...and then make a decision about visiting the vet.

If he isn't getting any fluids, I might be inclined to make a vet visit tonight.

Poor Zeus! I hope he is feeling better by the time you get home.

It's hard to tell how much he's drank since him and Mocha share a water bowl but I know I saw him drink last night after I gave him supper. He ate like normal this morning as well.

Of course he threw up all over the carpet in the den too which DH just shampooed Saturday

A couple of my dogs just went through a vomit spree. If I am certain there is no issues with a blockage I fast them and give them NOTHING (no food, treats, meds, etc.) for 24 hours and then we do rice for an entire day. Then rice for half a day and dinner is rice/kibble. By the 3 night back on kibble.

This is what I do as well.

Now that I think about it he did have a bullystick type braided bone I think it was Thursday which I think he ate a peice of :scared: I wonder if it's that? Would it wait that long to show signs if he was obstructed? He was fine yesterday. I'll have to see when I get home what is going on since I didn't see the messes that he threw up.

I do the same thing, only with Tal and Barney it has been dirrahea and not throwing up. I would probably go have him checked out, because if he did like Barney did last summer, it is possible he picked up some kind of bug that may make it recurring.

At any rate, good luck and hope Zeus is feeling alot better.

Well he seemed fine last night he was his normal goofy self when we got home and he didn't throw up anymore. DH said he did get him up about 4am this morning though wanting to go out. He was none to happy about not getting his supper last night either. I did give him a little rice this morning hopefully he keeps that down today.
