"Toto, we ain't in Newbrassky anymore "(Today's Historical Picture)

Last night a heavy thunderstorm rolled through here and I thought of this picture. On June 4, 1908 a tornado went through Kearney Newbrassky. Solomon Butcher who by now had a studio there, went out and took a few pictures. This is a house owned by someone named Bond and is the best of the bunch. What is really interesting is that the concrete sidewalk looks like it was just poured and the forms taken up a few days ago. Notice the little girl walkin' on the edge of the sidewalk, tryin' not to fall. Anyone remember doin' that when you were little. ;D

Picture 12877 of the Butcher Collection.

I will still walk a curb like that. Remember it's mandatory to grow old,not grow up!

Wesley loves to do this. He'll walk around our entire circle balancing on the curb.

My friend Onery Orr and I in the Omaha paper in Feb of 2006, do we look like we grew up? ;D

Wow. My HR guy just came around and handed us our tornado procedures because apparently we're supposed to have some nasty storms come through here today. We've never been that serious about storms before.

This picture just kind of hit home after that...

That little girl is gonna fall!! ;D I used to do that all the time and if I'm not wearing heels...I still do.

Hey Glen...you've made your mark on me. I am moving to a new house on Nebraska Court and every time I type it I have to back up because I start to type Newbrassky. ;)
I messes up Mr. Google also. ;D

I don't know if you ever caught it but Newbrassky is much closer to the Otoe Indian word which means "River in the Flat Land." My Grandfather and some of his fiends always pronounced it that way and when I started doin' Living History" I switched to it most of the time. When a bunch of us get together we are as bad as The Dune Buggy group. ;D
