Knowing that finding the right mental health door to walk through can sometimes be a puzzle, I went to an online telephone directory for your area and was smacked with about 200 agency names, none of which struck me as THE most appropriate place from their labels.

So I started making some calls to agencies with names that I did know and trust (Association of Community MH Ctrs, NAMI, etc.).

Within 3 calls, I'm pretty sure I found the place for you to start and to get help -- not only for you and Jordan but also for Shannon when she's ready for it.

Please call the CHRYSALIS CENTER FOR WOMEN in Minneapolis, (612) 871-0118.

They offer a range of services (child, legal, therapy, counseling, substance abuse treatment, referrals) and, if there is a charge, it's on a sliding scale. This sounds like the most appropriate place for you to start.

Your applause is very kind but it's really just a matter of ingrained professional ethics and integrity -- a purpose to help those within my power and scope to help. The situation Thunder's Mom and her daughter and grandchild are in is similar to those with which I've dealt many times. I also know how difficult it is to find one's way through the various private, group, non-profits, for-profit franchise groups, community agencies, to the more effective places.

I'm experienced in finding the better people to ask to get the better directions. How could I not do that for this family in pain?

Chrysalis -- I hope -- is her local agency best equipped to help but there's no 100% guarantee. A lot will depend on the skill and understanding of the person T'sM meets with as well as how ready T'sM is to accept that help. Let's hope it all goes very well.
