Potsie's post the other day got me to thinkin' about years ago in a body shop I worked with a guy who kept half a Chevy pick-up bumper under his work bench and got it out the mornin' after pay day and cut a piece off with an air chisel to see who had a hangover.

Then I remembered this picture from the Mathew Brady Collection of Civil War pictures.

The is the USS Monitor which fought the CSA Virginia formally know before it's rebuild as the USS Merrimac.

Those dents in the turret are from 12 inch diameter sold iron balls the cannon on the Virginia hit it with. OH and there was no sound deadening in the turret. :eek:

Yeah, but he appears to be an officer anyway. ;D Sorry Mark, I couldn't resist that one. ;)

He's demonstrating his courage by standing so close to the edge.

Either that, or he has to hang on to the pole to steady himself. :D

Most likely a Naval officer anyway. ;)
