for our only k9 unit for a few county's around. Wonder what happens/happened to the dog?? Was a lovely malinois.

It doesn't say anything in the article about him being part of a K9 unit. I hope they take the dog away from him and pair it with another officer. That asshat doesn't deserve to have a dog!
