She's got 6 kids already, why on earth does she want more?? I always thought you had to go through a screening process before getting fertility treatments. Provide some sort of medical history? If the doctor or clinic where aware of her situation (6 kids already, single, living with her parents) how, in good conscience, would allow her to get fertility treatments.

Wait a minute! I thought I heard this morning that the father is in Iraq. She is staying with her parents so they can help with the kids while he is away. I guess we'll find out someday what's true and what isn't. Maybe.

More news about the mother of the octuplets born in California. She was recently bankrupt and conceived through IVF. The mother is in her mid-30s, and as the world learned Thursday, already had six older children. Her name has not been released.

She lives with her parents in a 2-3 bedroom house, and a year-and-a-half ago the family declared bankruptcy and abandoned another home. She conceived the babies through IVF, which doesn't normally transfer more than 2 embryos, and all eight embryos took.

There is no mention or information about the babies' father or where she got the fertility treatment. When she arrived at the hospital where she gave birth for prenatal treatment, she was already 3 months pregnant.

The babies grandfather is reportedly going back to Iraq to earn money for the doubled family.

OK... come on. You declare bankruptcy and then can afford IVF treatments after already having 6 kids?!

At least the Ds seem to have the financial situation to deal with that many kids. This woman is nuts.

"It would be very unlikely that this would be natural," said James Airoldi, maternal fetal medicine specialist and director of Obstetrics at St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network in Bethlehem, Pa. "It's very likely this was the result of some form of ovarian stimulation with the use of fertility drugs." This method would cause the ovaries to produce more follicles (each of which releases an egg ) than normal.
"In vitro fertilization won't get you this [octuplets], because most doctors who do in vitro fertilization will only put two or three embryos back," Airoldi said, adding that even if a doctor inserted three embryos back into a woman's uterus and one of these split to produce twins, you'd only get four embryos.

"There's no doctor who would've put seven or eight embryos back in. That would be totally irresponsible of any doctor," he said.
