Throws the F bomb pretty easily for somebody being described everywhere as an apple cheeked grandma.

I think she got tased because her actions were forcing him to stand too close to that busy road. That and she appears to be a nasty old *****.

Regardless, a man that size should have subdued her without the use of a taser. The local RCMP are undergoing major scrutiny for the taser death of a Polish immigrant at our airport. 4 cops tasered him 5 times and claim they couldn't have subdued the man without the use of a taser.

I have a basic distrust of cops. I understand we need them, but have seen way too many on outright power trips for my liking. Being married to a black guy and the interactions we have had with the police has certainly changed my view of them. That being said, I think anytime somebody can be subdued without having to physically touch them, that should be the first choice. You just can't know what a suspect is going to pull out of a pocket in the midst of a struggle. To me, on the scale of who gets to go home alive at the end of the day, the cop comes before the idiot who just can't manage to put his hands behind his head.

I think the cop warned her and tried to get her to cooperate as best he could. Sure, he could have physically restrained her, and been charged with sexual harrassment. I don't think the lady deserved to be tased, but then she was not behaving as a 72 year old great grandma either. **** it! She was speeding and then giving the cop a hard time.

There's a case here in Missouri where cops tasered a teenager and he died from it. :( I -believe- the officers were cleared, and there was a case last year where a kid was running from the cops and jumped or fell off an overpass and broke his back and several other bones and the cops tased him because "he was posing a threat to them." Though they never did explain how a kid with several broken bones was posing a lethal threat to them. :(

I've got several friends in law enforcement, all folks who are some of the best folks in the world. Have also met some cops, mostly young ones who push beyond what they should. Spent the weekend with one, retired out of Texas. He was telling us about the time he thought he could safely subdue a suspect because he was twice the guys size, on a traffic stop that acted like that. Got him subdued with a good right fist, after the knife they guy pulled at the last minute cut a bunch of nerves and tendons in his left hand.

His back-up he called got there and slowed the bleeding, after several hours of surgery and 6 months rehab he returned to work. In that day they had no pepper spray or tasers, his choice was either his pistol or by brute force. The suspect survived his skull fracture and served several years for the assault.

That little old lady could have been armed also, I think he did the best considering the circumstances. And yes a struggle could have put one or both in the line of traffic.

Here's the link to that kid that got tasered in Missouri with a broken back

Interestingly enough the kid was arrested about 8 months later for shooting at houses with a gun. : /

Tasers are pretty new for most police departments. Like any new toy it ain't fun if you can't use them.

What kind of ***** can't take down an elderly woman without a taser? Hope he's not transferred to a gang control unit.

But what would have happened if she'd of had osteoporosis and he'd have broke one of her hips or something like that? Besides, not all 72 year oul women are frail, I know one that still goes out and helps throw hay bales at haying time. She should have never put him in the position to have to do either.

You don't think her slamming into the ground & flailing wildly from being electrocuted would be a bit rough on an elderly woman with osteoporosis? Not to mention what it would do to a 72 year old heart. All people in their 70's are relatively frail, come on. When you are pushing 80, things are on the decline. My mom is 74 & my dad is 84, they are the healthiest specimins you'd ever want to see for their ages, but I cannot imagine either of them being tased.

Pull your gun on her if you have to, to show her you mean business, but tasing a senior citizen? Nope, sorry, that was a dumbass move. If she had a weapon & came at him, sure. or if she didn't respond to having a pistol pointed at her, but just for not listening right away?

Once you pull the pistol and use it as trained with two hands you have to holster it to use the taser and free the hands up, takes time. She's the one who decide to cause the problems, the officer did exactly as he was trained.

The officer was put in a situation by her that no matter what he did he'd take flak, he made the decision he thought was best and I'm glad his higher ups are standing behind him.

why was he trying to arrest her anyway?
She refused to sign the speeding ticket, the law says you have to sign it, it shows the court that you received it, it does not show guilt. Without the signature the ticket is invalid and will be thrown out. Refusal to sign is a misdemeanor called failure to comply.

The law which the officer has sworn to uphold requires he arrest her and take her to jail. Legally he had no choice but to arrest her, failure to do that could cost him his job.
