First-up - Our economy isn't going too bad, we're riding out the storm, some job losses, a downturn in spending etc. but, as far as I'm aware, nothing on what's going on in the US.

Depends where you are, those in rural / regional Victoria (Dunno about the other states) seem to have their heads screwed on right. Melburnians on the other hand are (In my opinion) too tightly wound up for their own good.

Nath - Its not that we don't like immigrants here, we just don't like the dickheads who fly / float in and start trouble. If you're willing to have a go, you're more than welcome. If you're looking to sponge off us, look elsewhere.

Dipete - Chocolate Labs aren't a problem, they're as welcome as any other Lab. RN I'm not sure on.

You'd hate Canada, we welcome immigrants (and have for several hundred years). And we're allowed to be openly athiest here *gasp* and aren't so obsessed about a bit of fabric.

I am hoping that the last comment about not being obsessed about a bit of fabric is tongue in cheek but somehow I don't think so...and feel I need to speak up!

My father and grandfather, and many uncles fought so you could call our flag "a bit of fabric". They risked their lives and families so that you would have the right to say that! I'm not sure about you, but I for one am PROUD of my bit of fabric that says to the world that I am CANADIAN! I am proud that you have the right to be openly athiest, or hindu, or whatever, and I am proud that we open our doors to immigrants and my bit of fabric tells the world that! I wear that bit of fabric when I travel, I have it flying in my back yard and I am every bit as proud of it as any American (or any other nation) is of theirs.

Our country could do with a little patriotism now and again. I was awed at the celebration of the inauguration of Obama and the pride that was shown to the world...here we elect someone and no one blinks an eye, it seems...we just start bitching. Maybe if we were all a little prouder more people would display their bit of fabric to the world a little more often!

Hey guinnysmom, get off the high horse! Most of us have had family that served. Canadians are typically 'quietly patriotic'. One of the differences between us and the US that helps to define us. You celebrate your patriotism in your way and let others celebrate in theirs.
