A friend just sent this so I've called and got my cell phone listed (Strangely, the recording said the state of Kansas and federal government; I presume whatever state you call from will get named.)

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public next month. REMINDER.... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls..... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222 .It is the National DO NOT CALL list.

It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.

UPDATE: Snopes says it's a hoax. Sorry for saying the sky is falling without first checking.

Re: Block telemarketers from calling your USA cell phone? And you paying airtime

Bob, I am fairly certian this is an internet rumor. I have seen this every once in a while over the last few years.

I don't know about this being true, but I did put my cell number on the Do Not Call List. I figured it can't hurt to have it listed.

What is really bugging the **** out of me, is the random telemarketing text messages I get. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop them (at least that I know of) without getting rid of my text messaging all together. :whatever:

I put both my cell and landline phones on the DO NOT CALL list.

I get robocalls offering me lower interest rate on my credit card, "this is your last chance to take advantage" they keep saying. Hope the do not call works.

Have you asked your provider? Can't they block certain #s?
