We took River and Jake to the dog park a few weeks ago for their b'day's. I met a 17 year old black lab girl there. She was a small girl. I asked her owner what she fed her.............Purina; Beneful to be exact. Oh and a few table scraps that she would steal here and there. Although this is not a food I would have chosen for my guys, it seemed to work for this particular dog.
Again, the saying "what your dog does best on" tends to hold true! ;)

I saw an article Tufts CollVetMed published in their "for owners" magazine that gave life expectancies as a function of weight. It was striking how much longer lives small dogs have on average (about 20 years for a 3 lb. adult dog) but only about 8-9 years for a 140-150 lb. dog.

So, judging from that, small Labs would live longer.

My Bess (55 lbs.) lived to be about 14 and her diet then wasn't as good as foods provide now.
