Hi
I have a black lab pup called Bob who is 13 weeks now. He's had both jabs and we've started 2 x 15 min walks per day. He's been very socialised and has played with much bigger dogs (long haired retrievers, cairn terrier, boxer, greyhound, and Labrador) and has met lots of peeps.

The only problem is he launches himself at me and other peeps and bites/nips. He's draw blood on me several times and has nipped two of my grandsons. I cry ouch/no/down etc in a loud voice (it hurts!). I try distraction with a chew or toy, I try turning my back to him and avoiding eye contact - he still manages to get me and has bitten holes in two garments (fortunately he did not get my skin underneath on these two occasions - it would have been painful!)

Can anyone suggest anything? It's impossible to sit on the sofa as he's even worse then - they are both barricaded so I'm not able to sit on there either!

Any guidance gratefully received
Lynne

Would putting some muzzle for about few weeks could help him be trained not to bite? Also, what if you give him some bone or a toy when you know he would bite

I feel your pain, truly, I do. Lab pups are known to be nippers, sometimes called crocopups. Mine was like that, got me way more than a couple of times. I don't have a magic solution and it has been a while, but I recall I stopped letting him get at my hands and arms.

As to some of the other issues you are having? 2 X 15minute walks for a labrador is pretty much next to nothing. These dogs are hunters and have tons of energy. In the early days with mine we would play 5 to 6 times a day for about a half hour or more each time. Yea, I know, who has that much time? Welllll, I am retired, so I do. Murphy (ours) is almost seven now, and he still plays 3 to 4 times a day for about 20 minutes each time.

If you can get his exercise time increased I think some of those other issues will become more solvable. When these guys are happy all they want to do is please us. But the biting? Just something about them. . . . . but, when the time comes I will do it all over again because they are just plain great to have for a friend.
