I saw somewhere on here that pure bred black labs can have white spots/patches. Something about St. Johns dogs is what I remember. Now Apollo came from a shelter and I'm sure he's a lab mix. Hes black with white on some of his toes and a white star on his chest. He only weigns 56lb. Everyone that sees him though says, "are you sure he's not pure lab?"

Now a while ago someone on here brought up the idea that maybe one of apollo's parents was a pure lab and that the other was a lab mix. That is actually what I think is the case with him.

Now, to the point-I was just wondering, does anyone on here have a pure bred black lab with white areas on their coat? if so I'd love to see picks to see how they are similar to apollo. Thanks.

My Joker has a tiny bit of white on his chest. It is barely noticeable. And Murph has Bolo marks (white spots) on both of his front paws.

I think if Apollo has a large white spot on his chest and paws he his probably not purebred. From the pictures you have posted I would also say he is a Lab crossed with a Lab mix.

Those: "white patches" as you describe them, the've also called: "Bolo Pads" ;)

Those 'pads' are directly comming from the original pure breed Labrador, such as you could find them in the UK back in those days ;)

I dont know how the rest of the (Labrador) world act with those pads, but over here in the Netherlands they've are allowed by the breeding description of the Labrador Retriever Club :)

On the above link you will be able to find more information about the: St. Johns Dog, and the "Bolo pads" ;)

Actualy: "Bolo" was a name given to one of the first Labrador's ;D

Sherman is PB, the breeder said his lines are of the smaller old english type Labs...... I think they were meaning that he is not the tall lanky type that is being bred these days. Anyhow, Sherman does have a white spot on his chest. He was a pup in this shot.

Yup, that is exactly what I was thinking. I was just curious to see peoples pure bred labs with white spots cuz I didn't realize a purebred could have white in their coat.
