My 13 week old Lab puppy broke his leg on wenesday, we took him to the vet on thursday morning and he was fitted with a cast and we brought him home with restrictions on playing and running. He seemed fine up until this evening when he started to pant rather rapidly, he was/is laying down, but he can't seem to get comfortable.
My question is, should i be concerned with his rather rapid panting ?
he seems to be relaxed enough, but still he's panting as if he's been out in the hot sun all day long with no water to drink.
we were given 3 days of pain medication with he took yesterday and today at about noon, it's 10:00 P.M now.
Before i panic to death and call the vet, does anyone have any advice on why this may be?
Thanks for any opinions in advance.

panting can be stress or pain related, so I would think he's in a bit of discomfort or stress about the cast and trying to lay down without hurting himself. Give him lots of love and pats.

I would talk to the vet about a bit more pain meds however.

thanks for the response

thank you again, i tend to agree with you, however, my wife is a basket case.
he is a bit warm as well, i will absolutly call the vet first thing in the morning about more/stronger pain meds.
thanks again.

How is the pup today? How did he break the leg? (just curious and wondering if there might be something else bothering the pup).

It was crazy

he broke his leg, when he jumped up in the yard excitedly. When he came down he yelpped like crazy, and wouldn't move. Today he seems better, I think maybe he had some anxiety problems, because we let him sleep on our bed and he calmed down and was able to sleep through the night, he was still breathing rather rapidly, the vet said to come and get a different medication that should help him.
Thanks for the concern.
