It all depends on what your puppy likes, and what the personality is. Some pups love stuffed animals and will treat them gently, carrying them around and sleeping with them. Others, like my two, love to dismember them and then rip them to shreds!
Some love squeaky toys, and the squeaking can drive you up a wall if you are not used to it ... and even if you are!
Others prefer balls, but you must make sure never to let your pup chew on tennis balls. That fabric acts like sandpaper on their teeth, wearing them down, plus they can actually take the ball apart and swallow pieces. Any toy made of a tennis-ball like material should be strictly supervised and used for retrieving only.
For power-chewers, any Kong toys and durable Nylabones are great.
Nylabones are great.. keeps them entertained! But I agree, stay away from tennis balls. Abbey LOVES squeaky toys, but we mostly have rubber ones since the stuffed toys used to get destroyed in about 5 minutes.
