Hi there. We are new to the fourm as we have a new puppy Bailey (chocolate lab) who is 4 months old. This past weekend, her one ear seems to have developed a fold and doesn't sit flat like your typical lab ear. The other ear is fine. May be a silly question, but is this normal in puppies? Will it return to laying flat as she grows? Both ears are clean and there is no sign of an infection. If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

Make sure she doesn't have a hematoma. Dogs get them when they scratch their ears and blood fills between the upper and lower skin on the ear flap.

I have the same issue. My yellow lab, Rufus, is 11 weeks old. His left ear seems to be folding on the inside and not staying straight. I was wondering if he would grow out of this. Same on the no infections, mites, or hematomas. Will try to upload pics later. Thanks for any advice...

My 4 month old has wonky ears too.. I just thought it was how she looked because she is mixed but just to see.. I tried fixing her ears and they are floppy lab ears. Maybe it is the teething. She is teething bad right now.. But someone else had told me you're supposed to massage their ears in the teething phase.

Just wanted to share this... Look at the difference...

With those folded ears

Then i massaged them and they stayed in place for a few minutes and i caught a picture

What a difference in her appearance. So maybe massaging them daily will help fix the problem? I know my ears hurt when my wisdom teeth came in.... and for all the little babies who had bad ear pain when they were teething... Think our pups just need some relief too :)

Hi my pup has the same thing going on with his ears. After an exhaustive search on Google and talking to other dog owners I have found out it is called "Rose Ear" and is normal and doesn't endanger your pup at all. If you want them to have normal folded ears I have seen that you can tape the ear to create the normal crease to halt the rose ear from becoming permanent. It seems that this crease happens a lot around teething and once set may be unable to reverse.
