Ziggy got into PI in the woods, he has a small rash on his "boy parts" What can I put on it to stop the itching? (he is licking like mad) Vet dosen't have hours today and the ER vet charges for phone consults so, any help would be nice.

Put on gloves and long sleeves. Wash him thoroughly with soap to remove any residual poison ivy oil. Be careful - he can transfer the oils to you! Since he's licking so much, I'd not try anything topical at first, since he's just going to lick it off. You can give him some Benedryl - plain diphenhydramine, with nothing added. The dose is 1-2mg/lb, so if he's 50#, the dose would be 50-100mg. I believe commercially available tablets are 25mg, but check to box to make sure.

Thank you! We washed him last night with Dawn dish soap we have found it works great for DH as he always gets PI! I will give him the benedryl, he is 60 lbs but I may only give 50mg and see how it works.
