Not your typical diarrhea. Just soupy not often or urgent.

Reba on Sunday began having loose stool. I did not notice it until late afternoon. Yesterday, Monday, it was just brown water and no firm stool. About 7 instances of the brown water. Today, not much of anything, but a brown soup this morning and just a few minutes ago.

She does not seem to be in pain and has been about as active as normal. I did just give her half of her supper last night and half of her breakfast this morning. I did call the vet last night about 6 p.m. and just got off the phone with him. He wants to give her something to firm up her stool and perhaps an antibiotic. And do a stool sample.

She just had a stool check five weeks ago when she had her shots and heartworm check. Monday was her second heartworm med since then. Probably should not have given her that with the problems she is having.

My gut is telling me that this is just not loose stool, but perhaps a blockage of some sort. Do any of you have any ideas or suggestions? Am I just being a worry wart?

I think if she had a blockage then you wouldn't see anything coming out. Have you changed anything - food, treats, anything at all? Definitely have the vet check a sample.

I am in the middle of a bag of dog food and my JRT eats the same food, so it is probably not the food. Her supper last night was a little kibble, half a can of pumpkin, and a couple of scoops of chicken and rice dog food. I cooked some rice and chicken this morning.

Reba weighed 92 pounds at her check up 5 weeks ago. So she has not been getting as much dog food and was down to 89.9 last Friday. She has been showing signs of stiffness after exercise, so I have ordered a supplement. It has not arrived yet, so that is not a part of this diarrhea problem.

I have not used any flea and tick prevention yet this year and we do walk in the local park a couple of times a week. It has been a wet spring here but not warm enough for mosquitoes or there would be an abundance. The vet did not suggest checking for lyme disease.

Like humans, dogs will have different reactions to different foods. Is this the same food she's been on forever? It's not new for her?

Does it have a raunchier than normal smell? I'm thinking Ghiardia, which is picked up easily anytime.
