I had only been outside a few minutes and was trying to unwind the hose from the holder. When I finally got it done I turned around and Moose had quite the erection - but he wasn't looking too happy. His just stood frozen and had his tail between his legs. He tends to hump Sky when he gets excited so I'm guessing it was just a little too much. But I was freaked! I didn't know what to do. So I called my SU to stay with him while I called the ER vet. They told me to just wait it out and see if it went back in on its own. Which it did - thankfully. They sure do know how to get your heart going!

Oh boy!! Now there's something that doesn't happen every day! :D Glad it went back in. I'm not sure what you could do about that. Tell him to think about baseball? :p

My ex-father-in-law had this happen to his horse. He had to go out several times a day and apply a salve to try and get it to go down. It didn't and the horse died from it.

That happens with Hudler at least once when Grace is in heat. He gets worked up and gives one of the dog beds the business. I heard that it can be a bit dangerous for them to wait, something about the penis drying out, plus the blood flow. We had to deal with this the other night in fact. We usually wet a towel down with cold water and hold it on him to kind of kill the mood and keep things moist. This time, the prepuce rolled back in and was stuck, so we had to rub some vaseline all over, and it eventually all fell into place. It's kind of a scary thing to see....

Okay, y'all are scaring the crap out of me! I'm already stressed out enough about Sally going through heat (soon I hope...get it over with) and our Basset Buster going crazy. Now I have to worry about his Mr. Winkie getting stuck??????????? I guess I'll be out there on that back porch every hour doing a Mr. Winkie check!!! ::) ::)

I've heard of people putting sugar on "it" also... I dont know if this is to get them to lick it? to make it go back, or what the purpose is.
Anyone heard of this ?

I'm glad Moose is ok. That would be scarey.

That must've been scary. At least it went down on its own, though. My friend's Blue Heeler had to be taken to the emergency vet because his got stuck and wouldn't go down, despite his parents putting lube on his wee-wee as instructed.

This exact thing happened to my secretary's dog about two weeks ago (dog is a JRT mix). She ended up giving him a bath in cool water and that took care of it, but she's nervous that it will happen again. Doggie was very upset/perplexed by it.

Did he get a dropped Viagra? ;) Interesting that it's only a problem for humans if it lasts more than four hours, but it's dangerous to wait if it's a dog. :-\ Is it because of less blood in their bodies? Glad it all worked out, er, a , in?. That would be scary.

I actually think my son was more traumatized than Moose   I'm sure he's wondering now if his could get stuck  Luckily, Moose layed down in the shade and started licking it back in himself. I think he was kind of freaked out because when I found him he was standing very still with his tail between his legs. I think us helping to calm him down helped - I hope.

Jen - I'll have to remember the cold towel idea. The vet did say if it didn't fix itself within 15 mins to bring him in. They were more concerned about his discomfort.
