I have a question, it's a little strange. Does your Lab have one particular spot where s/he wants to lay, in spite of weird position or lack of comfort?

Bill and I have identical desks, back-to-back down the center of the spare bedroom. Bill's back is to the door, my back is to the window. Said window has been open, at least a bit, for the past two months or so. We always open the blinds as soon as we get up in the morning and they stay open until it gets dark or we go to bed. It is just at the perfect height for the boys. Champ can see out from a sit, Buddy has to stretch his neck just a little if sitting, but can see fine from a standing position. They love the window. One of their beds is on the other side of the window from my desk.

The quandary is this: Buddy has decided that the leg space under Bill's desk is his den and he sneaks in there every chance he gets. Bill, being the curmudgeon that he is, doesn't want Buddy under his desk so he's always yelling at him to get out of there. Buddy does not want to be under MY desk - it has to be Bill's. If Bill gets up to go to the bathroom, Buddy sneaks in there. If Bill turns to the side to work on something at the side table, Buddy sneaks in there. I've tried to get him to go under mine. Nope, not having it. He will lay next to me, with just his head under the desk, but that's all. On Bill's side, he curls up in a ball with his back against the cords, just like he curls up in his donut bed.

Anyone have an idea why Buddy is so adamant about being under Bill's desk? Could it be because he faces the doorway from there, and under mine his back is to the door? That is the only thing I can think of. Either that or he thinks my feet stink! Honest, I shower every day and wash them well!

That's a toss-up. We tried to make sure that Buddy was #1 when we brought Champ into the pack because Champ is a year older and quite a bit larger, but Buddy was here first. Champ is always the one initiating play between them, but Buddy will take whatever he wants from Champ. I'd say Buddy is the more dominant one.

Jackie, no real suggestions on why he does this, but others have provided some good ideas on the why. Sometimes I think they do it just to make us wonder what is going on in their furry little heads.

It might have to do with the desk facing the door. Bauer lays in different places depending on who is home, and who he wants to keep an eye on. If only he and I are home, he lays under my desk or next to me (but always facing the door). If I am in my office, and someone else is home he lays at the top of the stairs. I think he just likes to keep an eye on things.
