How did you choose your labrador retriever's name?

My husband named our Cybil. I said "What should we name her?" He said "Um, Cybil sounds good," and it was. It totally suited her too. Currently I'm compiling a list of names for a puppy (male and female names) but I imagine ultimately it will come down to the pup's personality and what the kids like best. LOL

I wanted something that made people smile when they heard it. Something that brought to mind kindness, gentleness, goofiness and lovability. (spell check says thats not a word, I say it is! :p)

"Baloo" fit the bill. It suits him to a "T" and I get lots of smiles when I tell people his name is "Baloo like the bear". :D

Toby is short for Toblerone, because he's chocolate. Chamois is, well, the color of a chamois-cloth (kind of dark butterscotch yellow). Maybe not the most creative endeavor, but they suit.

Baloo is a sweet name.

Caleb is a great name too, but I could be bias. I had a wonderful dog named Caleb growing up. He was my first dog.

I like Toby and Chamois too. I think they're pretty original. :)

The boys were named when we got them.

Shadow was just that - my Shadow. :) We wanted to call her Molly, but she wasn't having it. When Bill said she was my little shadow because she was always with me, that stuck, and she liked it.

Sally - we wanted a real girlie name and made a list and kept narrowing it down until it was between Penny and Sally. We chose Sally.

Spud - he was already named Spud when we got him. We loved that name!

Hoppy - his name was Chance. But we wanted to name him after an old-time cowboy. Hubby's childhood hero was Hopalong Cassidy, and in the movies his nickname was Hoppy. So we changed his name to Hoppy.

Mine are named on an apple theme, since I work in the fruit industry. :D
Gala, Rosa, Fuji, Jazz, Mata (a Northern Spy-- old midwest pie apple), Sonya (new New Zealand variety) and now Envy (another NZ variety coming next year!) are my last 4 generations or "crops". Anne

Anne I always meant to ask you what kind of apple was named "Sonya" but never got around to it. :D
A "Sonya" is a cross between a Delicious and a Gala. http://www.goodfruit.com/issues.php?article=63&issue=3
:D It's really a neat tasting early apple, kind of melon or banana overtones...

Since you'll likely ask.... Here's the story on Envy! http://www.goodfruit.com/issues.php?article=2163&issue=82 I've yet to test any of these though!!!! Taking a gamble. LOL. She's a little *hit. :D

Henry was named by his "uncle" Rick, a very good friend of mine. He came home nameless, and after a week of relating his puppy antics to Rick, he declared him a Henry. It fits him perfectly... it does means"ruler of the house" after all. ;)

I've always liked the name Oliver (Olivia for a girl) but it is actually a play on his registered name, "Kelrobin A Twist of Fate"... get it? Oliver Twist. How Ollie came into my life was truly a twist of fate, so his name is especially meaningful.

Thank goodness Maggie came with a name (we rescued her) because I'm not very original when it comes to naming my animals.

Black cat named Blackey
Grey cat named Grey kitty
Orange cat named Orangey
Calico cat named Sophie was also adopted and had a name or else she would be calico kitty.

Okay, I am probably going to catch some heat, but here is how Lexi came to be Lexi.

The name L4R gave her was... Faylyn. Kind of strange in my opinion.

At the time I adopted her, I was huge fan of the Backstreet Boys (still am  ). In particular, I liked Kevin Richardson. Kevin hailed from Lexington, KY, so I named her Lexi... a shortened version of where my favorite BSB was born.

I know really dopey, but I like it.
