my old horse lease was sold last month because of hard times at the barn. i was looking for something else so talked with the barn owner and she found a great solution. storm is an 11 year old quarter horse mare. she was used for english and western show with the barn owners niece when she was still interested in horses. she has a few awards under her belt when she was shown. now the niece interested in buying a car and boys so i stepped in. she has a nice slow trot but i can't convince her to canter for long. she is really barn stale. she has basically been stalled for months with little or no work. the barn owner said she would help me work with her because she will have to be retrained for her trot and canter. she said that she will teach me to be a better rider as i teach her to be a better ride. i am looking forward to the experience.

any horse people...any advice you could give me on working with her would be great. next week, i plan on using the lunge line with her. what kinds of things should we work on during a week one training?

No worries. I thought maybe that was the name since the horse's picture was in the siggie and there were three names after the human name. ;)

Oh and for the original poster, you might look up Clinton Anderson books and videos. He seems really popular for training in one of my magazines I subscribe to.

No training advice, but she sure is pretty! =)

I would think once she has her trot, canter & lead changes she'll be fun to ride. I hope you bond well with her. What's her name? I am guessing be her tack you'll be riding western? Or is that an older pic of her.

yes, that is my tack and the pic was taken yesterday. my dad bought me the saddle for christmas when i was leasing my other horse and i'm glad that it fits storm so well.

thanks for the info. labby. how is toby doing? i can't wait until the weather warms up so i can give storm a bath. she will look a lot cleaner after she's had a good scrubbing.
