Okay, so I went out and took a bunch of pictures for you all to see the progress so far.
Here it is from the front:

Entering from the sidewalk into the front garden. This garden is for the suite which is where I'm living right now. Immediately to the left (out of the shot) are the steps going up to the duplex entries.

Inside my parent's unit showing the finished stairs and floors:

My side. This area is still being used for tools and such, so isn't finished on the main floor. The upper floors have carpet and resilient flooring in place. I'll be finishing the stairs and putting in the floor in the next few weeks.

Here's the roof deck. We just started putting on the decking.

And finally, my boys. Samm's right at home by the front door.

I like the rear elevation. You should flip it around. :)

Are your parents stairs finished? In California you can't build a staircase like that without railings. If you sell an older unit you have to retrofit. I'd hate to go up those with a couple of drinks in me.

Nope. Not finished yet. Our building codes, when it comes to guard railings of any type, are far more Byzantine than U.S. building codes. So, yes, there will be a hand rail and guard.

It's friggin' gorgeous. The rooftop patio would be my favourite place, I can imagine the view! Is that part shared by the two duplex units?

So when finished, you will live in one duplex, your parents in the other, and then rent out the basement?

I know you know this, but given the ridiculous housing market in Vancouver, this is an unbelievably great idea!

Nice job, Cam. It is stunning. Love the hardwoods. And that deck? I'd be there 24/7!
