Recently being new here, my decision to go RAW maybe too late.
Truth is, I started here because I was noticing problems with my Lab's health. Some sporatic upchucking of meals got me started.
Anyway went to the vet and had blood work done.
Diagnosis is kidney are damaged and there are issues with her pancreas.
All this was in a short time period.
Doctor said it was chemically induced, not parasites or bacteria.
He also asked what was fed. He feels strongly (very strongly) that it was introduced by her food.
Fortunately my daughter works at a expensive animal hospital in Ct and is a big help. But there is only so much she can do.
Presently my Becca went on IV last night to flush the system and willnot be evaluated until sometime tomorrow to evaluate the full effects . I've been warned that there is a chance of special diet needs and there was possible worst possibilities.
I thought I was feeding a really good "safe" product and am totally shocked, maddened, and saddened over this. Becca is not "just a dog", she is a true friend.
At this point things are out of my hands and little I can do.
But I felt I needed to do something.
I posted on Yahoo about cautioning others about their food choice and asked they'd look at RAW &BARF.
I also stickied a message to this site for information as you've all been proving to me that there is plenty of info that you're all willing to share.
Also, made mention that even if the "dog food" is safe this time,,, there willbe a next. no doubt in my mind that the manufacturerd are only interested in profits and not the lives of their customer's animals.
Sorry if this sounds unduely harsh to a few good "dog food" suppliers, but it's impossible for me to know the good from the bad and I will NEVER buy "dog food" again from anyone.

It is truly the only way to be safe.
I'm so sorry to hear about your girl...kidney damage is also commonly related to vaccines too. Sometimes we think we are doing the best for our dogs and it is a real blow to find out that we may have been harming them.
I would seek out a good classical homeopath...conventional medicine will only drive the problem deeper into her body. Please keep us updated.

i too, i'm sorry to hear this.
i've had all my dogs on raw for three years and my latest edition to my family, Webster, a 3 month old yellow lab was started on RAW around the beginning of March. he's now totally on a RAW diet.

i realize some people don't agree with it and some vets, but i wouldn't feed my dog(s) anything else.

I am so sorry! My first purebred Lab was named Becca, so my heart really does bleed for you. Is there a good holistic vet in the area? They sometimes can do something when other vets can't. Not always, but a good option.

I know many many dog food manufactureres are in it simply for the money. If they were not, then they would not be using product from China. But, there are really good companies out there as well.

Again I am so sorry.
