I moved into a new house about a month ago. It is a townhouse with three floors. The first floor you walk into through the front door or a garage door into the foyer and a large living/entertaining area. Lots of windows etc.
Go up a flight of stairs to the second floor and that's where the kitchen, dining, living room is. Another flight of stairs and then we land on the third floor with the bedrooms.
So my delema is with Buck. He chooses to stay down in the first floor foyer or living area at all times! He'll come up if he hears me russeling around with a bag or somethign thinking there's food he can get. Once he comes up investigates and realizes there's nothing exciting going down he goes back downstairs. I can't seem to get him to come hang out with me on the second floor. I can't always be down on the first floor with the kitchen being upstairs but when I get done with stuff I just go down there to him.
When it is bed time and I say...Hey buck! It is sleepy time. He will come romping up and go straight to the third floor shove my bedroom door open and go get ready for bed.
Now he isn't the most clingy dog. But at least when we were in the apt he'd be somewhere near by where he could see me and I could see him.
He gets clingy when he is either scared or is in a new place and then he makes sure I am near by other than that he tends to just do his thing. Which really is just chilling out near by or just plain passed out snoring away!
The only thing I can think of is maybe he likes keeping an eye on the front door? My apt was real small. So you could see the front door pretty much where ever you were except all the way in the bedroom. I don't know what else it is.
Or is he just sad and not liking the new place? I can't tell. His routine hasn't changed. We still go on our usual walks and playtime. He gets fed on time. Goes to day care etc.
Oh also, I do put on booties for him when he is on the second floor because he slips and slides all over the place on the hardwood. The shoes keep him from slipping and keeps the floor from getting scratched up. He has never put up a fight with me putting them on nor does he try to take them off.
I even let him go up there with out the booties thinking maybe that is why he doesn't like coming up. Part of the floor is hardwood and the part of it is carpet. No change in his behaviour.
Any ideas on what could be going on in his mind?
