They literally locked them in the capitol building for the weekend. All we got were pictures of them sleeping at their desks.
Don't worry too much about the state workers. They are going to rescind the notices as soon as the budget finally passes and they will never eliminate 10,000 positions in this state. The state legislature is owned by the public employee unions and it just won't happen. A local station did a story the other day how even though we are supposed to be in a hiring freeze, the state has filled 2,000 new positions since the beginning of the year.
The Republicans want spending cuts and the Dems say they did cut spending in the new bill but it turns out that most spending cuts were actually programs that were already set to expire anyway. The assembly speaker came out last week and said that she doesn't see any real reason for spending cuts, that "we just need more revenue". It didn't really help the situation any.
I know that we all think that the feds and the state could cut jobs and save money - but those are just regular ole people losing their jobs that they support their family with. I feel just as bad for them as anyone losing their job.
