When we got Bella from the shelter 7 1/2 years ago, they called her a Rottie/Lab mix - thus my screen name. A few months ago, we had a DNA test done on her (Wisdom Panel mixed breed analysis). I'll post the results of that test to this thread in a couple of days.

that tail is neither rottie nor lab.. but the face says retriever to me.. so i'd guess shepherd/golden...

however DNA tests are famous for ridiculous results.. so i'm gonna go with chihuahua/crocodile.

Well, her face is like a lab or golden. But her markings are similar to a rottie. but her tail is not as wavy as a golden or otter-like(lab type tail). So maybe german shepherd, rottie and lab. Plz post the real results.

If it wasn't for the tan and the tail she looks all Lab.

I think it is easy to assume that a black and tan medium/large size mixed breed must have Rottweiler in it. But I have to say that I don't see Rottie in her. If she was a straight Lab/Rottweiler mix, I would expect her head in particular to be more substantial than it is. Also, as someone else has mentioned, her tail isn't Lab or Rottie-like.

If I had to pick a breed that she was mixed with from the ones you listed, I would say Black and Tan Coonhound. The hound shape isn't dissimilar to a field-type Labs shape and that would also account for her colour. But then there is the tail...

Gordon Setters have that type of tail, and are obviously black and tan, but they are a fairly unusual breed. I suppose that German Shepherd could also make black and tan and produce that tail, but I don't see anything GSD-like in her apart from that.

Now, what she really is mixed with and what the DNA test says can be two different things! LOL As Laura said, those tests aren't dependable. Honestly, tho, I do see Rottweiler. Not just the markings. I guessed Rott/Lab/Golden.

eta- Oops, meant to add how utterly beautiful Bella is!

Oh gosh. I'm horrible at these mix guesses.

I see lab shoulders, head and facial expression, maybe shepherd hind quarters, don't know about that tail but it could be anything. Well, definitely not beagle tail.

Whatever the blend I think she's gorgeous. Always have.

The ears say Retriever (Labrador and/or Golden). The markings are too well defined and dark in appearance to be Shepherd. I'm thinking markings as well as eye color say Rottweiler. The facial bone structure says Labrador and the coat says Golden. That's my guess. Either way, she's gorgeous!!!

I´d say its golden/rott mix.

I´ve seen several labra-weilers and they look very different than Bella. They are more massive and with a very thick tail. She looks more thin, like golden girl.

Shouldn´t have said laba-weiler... now some idiot is going to create the "designer" mix...

Drum roll, please.........

The report that we got identified Bella as a Rottweiler / Golden Retriever mix although there "are also signals from other breeds which are not strong enough to identify with confidence", which either indicates "mixed-breed ancestors beyond three generations back" or a breed that they don't have data for.

I know there's a fair amount of skepticism with these tests (some people getting relative bizarre results), but I feel pretty confident that this is reasonably accurate - it seems to fit her physical and behavioral characteristics.

jzgrlduff and blackandyellow were right on!
MicksMom and KellyJean were pretty close.

Thanks everyone for playing! :)
