It's a FILLY!!

Our black mare foaled at the unheard hour of 10:30PM! Text book delivery. Baby was up in twenty minutes and knew where the snack bar was!

SO, here she is! I would have liked a little more neck and a little less head, but... :wink

Please welcome Field of Dreams Silk Stockings!

We are thinking she's grulla, as Momma had never given us anything other than a black based foal....

How cute! What is grulla?
"Grulla" is her color. It's a "black" horse with the "dun" gene. It turns the color on her body a mousey gray but leave the head and leg color black. She will also get leg barring on her upper legs (think zebra stripes!) and will have a stripe down her back and across her shoulders. You can kinda see the barring across her shoulders.

Adorable little girl! Silly question, could her head just appear large because of her coloring?

According to the website in the link, grulla is a type of dun coloring.
http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/colors/dun.html

Description from the linked website:

In Iceland and other parts of the world, this color is called Blue Dun.
In the USA, the lightest shade of black dun is called "Silver Grullo", then comes "Slate Grullo", then "Grullo", then "Lobo dun", with the last being the darkest shade.
So just what color is Grulla? It's often described as a mousy-gray, smoky-blue, or slate-gray color.
The black is diluted by the Dun gene to an off-black, bluish, smoky-gray color; in some cases, the horses are more mousy-brown-tan, and in even more other cases, the horses are the color of the inside of a Three Musketeer candy bar.

The dorsal is black, and the face and legs are often darker than the body.
Grulla is kind of hard to describe, but once you've seen a few you will be able to identify them.

The Fairy filly is great! Loves people and loves scritches.

We have 31 acres, more or less. Doesn't take much space for these little ones!

Thanks for the complement on Whitie. He's so bad.... <G> ALL MAN. No boy here!
