I am so thrilled to report that my husband and six year old (almost 7) yellow lab finished their UD Title on Saturday at the Akron (OH) All Breed Show. Terry was last dog into the ring. Of 12 entrants, only one had qualified and it was the person just before Terry. He had a black lab. I had to watch from afar and I was so nervous for them. Heeling was pretty good. Signals - Stand - no creeping - good - down -sit - come - and on the way back to Terry, Shamrock sneezed and ended up sideways on Terry's left like he had already finished. But Terry gave him the finish to the right signal and he did. Minus 5 but Q. OK - one down. Then articles - metal - quick - no problem. Leather - placed at top of the pile closest to the handler and this is the position Shamrock tends to overshoot and then doesn't come back but Saturday he did. Worked the pile, found the right one - and two down. Directed retrieve - Glove 1 - out/back. Three down. On the way to the stand for exam, Shamrock decides he has to check out a wall plug - sort of a touch. Even the judge kind of laughed about that. Stand for exam - Good - didn't move. Nice return to heel. Four down and now the dreaded go-outs. First send - out he goes - sits - bar jump - front - finish whew. Part two - out he goes - sits - high jump - takes it - front - finish and the crowd erupts with applause. It was so exciting. And remarkably, both pups that qualified finished their UD's. At first Terry wasn't sure he wanted to enter this show - there is no crating indoors and if its too hot outside, its tough on the pups. Its a fairgrounds so not much shade. Show was a month earlier than usual so I though the weather might cooperate and it did. Sunday - Shamrock was back to his old tricks - didn't down on the signals - although that is kind of a new one and missed the 1st go out completely because he had to check out some kind of fuzz on the floor. No Q's in Utility A on Sunday. On to UDX and maybe back to Agility with me. The glow has lasted until at least today.
