"Anyway, the more a company succeeds with one business model, the harder it is to, well, think different."

Or to think differently. I can't believe anybody who drops the ly so I'm sure the ipod will be fine.

I don't think the problem is with the ipod...though it does have its flaws...but primarily I think it's that Itunes is big honking piece of junk. It is SO much simpler to purchase DRM-free tunes from Amazon. If I need something portable that plays music, my blackberry can do that and more. I think the iphone is a much more likely ipod killer.

Well, I am not an Apple fan, computer world. But I received an Apple iPod Touch from one of my kids, and Apple has done a fantastic job with this device. If I wouldn't have to switch cell carriers, I would buy an iPhone. Several have tried to duplicate, LG, Blackberry, Google, but none have come close. The Touch and the iPhone are close to what the article is trying to promote, i.e. internet and cellular access to music (but you buy the music). I don't think this idea will happen very soon. Too many places where we just don't have access, aircraft for example. I find I use my Touch as a music source mostly when I am pretty much isolated from the rest of the world.
