Mass tonight is really unique -- in fact, there's really no Mass like it in all of the remainder of the Roman Catholic calendar.
We mark the Last Supper, including a ceremony where the priest will wash the feet of 12 representatives of the various ministries of our parish.
We celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Priesthood: Go and make disciples of all men.
We honor the institution of Holy Communion: Take and eat this bread and drink this wine and do this in remembrance of Me.
I love this liturgy. I really do. My background in church music include 11 years in a Catholic Church, followed by 11 years in a Methodist Church... where Maundy Thursday just wasn't the same. I enjoyed those years with the Methodists -- it was amazingly informative, and I got to work with the best Pastor ever, a more Christ-like man I've never met -- but it's nice to be back, enhancing with music this most mystical night.
I'll be exhausted over the next four days, with a ton of church commitments. But tonight is pure joy.....
