when I inquired about how much I received as gift would cost to replace it.

I am fortunate that my prior boss was extremely generous when it came to Christmas gifts. I worked for him for 6 1/2 years and in the first 3, I received Montblanc writing instruments:

- 1st, Ballpoint Pen
- 2nd, Mechanical Pencil
- 3rd, Leather Case for them

Of late I noticed the lead in the pencil was not feeding properly. I checked the Montblanc website & found they have a store not far from me. Long story short, I am shipping out to the store in King of Prussia Mall to be looked at by the service technician.

Obviously, with shipping it, I am sending it with Delivery Confirmation & I am insuring it. I called the store to find out how much it would cost to replace this, if it were lost & I wanted to replace it. Oy, I knew they were expensive, but never figured $400 expensive.

People think I am paranoid about them... well justifiable so when you consider I've got more than $800 in my purse!!!

You don't lose a $400 pen. I've had mine for almost 20 years and have never miss-placed it.
I mis-laid mine one time. Talk about **** near having coronary arrest. Turned out, it was under the edge of a chair in my living room.

Thunders Mom... as I said it was a gift from my then boss. A comment like that to a boss would be career suicide!

Allie, not sure what makes them so special to cost that much. Though I think it has to do with their shape and the weight of them. They are very comfortable to hold & my hand does not cramp up when I have to write alot with it.

Once you sit down and put a well made pen to paper, you'll wonder how you did without.
Nicely put!

I know it is crazy to pay that much for a pen or pencil, but once you use one, you understand. I would not own one except for that they were gifts from my boss. Montblanc's are clearly not something you buy for yourself.

It is difficult to explain but there is something about the design, the weight, etc. that makes it vastly different than your "dime a dozen" Bic pens or even the more expensive Tul line of pens.

It's the difference between a Bentley and a Ford. Craftsmanship. Quality. and ya don't see em every day.
Sharon that is a good way to put it. :)

As for the "ya don't see em every day", that is so true. The company I work for is part Siemens, so there are times when I am in meetings with Siemens personnel. It is priceless to watch people's eyebrows pop up when I pull a Montblanc out of my briefcase. Never know what is running through their minds, but it is definitely worth a chuckle.
