Yep, she is pretty isn't she? Every schoolboys fantasy, but the stupid ***** should know better.

There was a male high school teacher here a couple of years ago, same thing, he was 35, she was 17. The guy got 5 years in prison!!

I bet it is because she is female. Seriously, the boy and his friends probably thought it was great.

But if it had been an older man and a young girl, he would have gotten a much stiffer (no pun intended) sentence.

It's sexism. Man/woman commit the same crime against a minor. Man's going to jail for a long, long time. Woman's getting parole and counselling.

Also sexism. Can't recognize that perhaps he was damaged here by her crime? Can you imagine saying that a teen girl abused in this manner by a man "...probably thought it was great..."?????????

Exactly. See my post about the male teacher up the street from me. Five years in prison!!

Somehow I doubt it. Sounds to me like it was consensual.

Megans law was not designed to stop consensual sex with 17 year olds. You'll dilute its effectiveness, if it has any, by throwing in every idiot adult who sleeps with a 17 year old. Seventeen is above the age of consent in, I'm guessing, nearly every jurisdiction in the country. Save it for the freaks, not the people with bad judgment.

However, it is only a matter of time until some guy takes his case to the Supreme Court because he got 10 years for the same thing a woman got probation. Seems like a pretty reasonable equal protection argument to me.

Well this is interesting, I always thought it was 18 in most states.
Each US state has its own age of consent. Currently state laws set the age of consent at 16, 17 or 18. The most common age is 16 (more than half of the states have this age limit), however the five most populous states all have a higher age of consent (California-18, Texas-17, New York-17, Florida-18 and Illinois-17).

age of consent 16: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia
age of consent 17: Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Texas
age of consent 18: Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

Ok wait wait wait. In NJ the age of consent is 16, so why is she being charged at all then?

Now I really don't get it. LOL

well yours has been sentenced and the women in the jail will take care of her and she will be ostersized by her community and most likely will never teach again. But I bet they get together after her probation is over. just another sad day for a school system.

here is a link to what is going on in our community. very scary!!!!

The double-standard is driving me insane.

40 y.o. woman has sex w/17 y.o. male teen. It was probably consensual.

40 y.o. man has sex w/17 y.o. female teen. He's a sicko who needs to be put in jail.

If the age of consent is 17 in your state, Amy, I don't know why she or the guy you mentioned from a couple years ago got charged with anything. Unless they're arguing that since teachers are in a position of authority over the students the actual consent is hazy.

I don't know either, Melis. It's actually 16 here. I'm going to see if I can find it online to see what the real story was!
