Hi, I will be getting my new puppy tomorrow. He was fed Eukanuaba large breed by his breeder and I want to switch him to Orijen. Should I wait for a week before I start the switch or would it be ok to slowly switch his food over now.

Thank you,
Debbie

I woulod wait a week to let him get acclimated, and then start the slow switch. :)

The move to a new home is going to be stressful enough for the little fellow so I would not change his food right away.

In fact, if he is doing ok on the Eukanuba, I would wait until I transitioned him to adult food at 10 - 12 months. That way you avoid any upset tummies. And don't forget, we like lots of pictures!

Hi thanks for the responses. I was switching him because I was trying to be responsible about his nutrition. My last lab was allergic to the grains in most dogfoods and had constant ear infections. I will take your advice and wait for a while before I switch. I have bought both Eukanuba and Orijen some I'm prepared. Thanks again.

I don't know that I would keep a puppy on Euk for months and months - but yes - you should wait a while and transition very slowly.

I agree, wait till puppy settles into your home and then do a gradual switch. Toilet training a puppy is hard enough without having to deal with him having the runs too. Icky! You'll thank us later LOL

Sarah I'm already thanking everyone. My gut instinct told me I should wait at least a week before switching and then do over a period of a week or two, but I'm not very experienced with dogs so I just wanted to check.
