I was always lead to believe that dogs didn't see colours as we humans do, and that objects were mostly in black and white.

Today, in the school where I work we celebrated world book day by dressing up as a character from a book.

I went dressed as a witch, but obviously before driving home through the traffic i removed my pointed hat, false nose and purple wig.

The only indicator that I had been dressed up was a green face paint which I had all over my face, like the wicked witch of the west from the wizard of oz.

When I walked through the front door this afternoon when I got home, Jed went mad, he barked at me and jumped up which he never does.

I wouldn't have thought I'd look that different in black and white, so now I'm wondering If he could see the green?

Anybody got any ophthalmic facts for me?

I've wondered a bit about this myself. My dog Rocky the last few years has been afraid to go down the steps to the basement. The steps are kind of a grey colour. He looks down as if he can't judge the distance to the next step or can't distinguish between one step or the next. (Thus making him think the next step might be a lot further down than it really is.)
