In accordance with its over-riding commitment to pet health and well-being, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry food from the market. Hill’s is taking this precautionary action because during a two-month period in early 2007, wheat gluten for this product was provided by a company that also supplied wheat gluten to Menu Foods. U.S. Food and Drug Administration tests of wheat gluten samples from this period show the presence of a small amount of melamine. Prescription Diet m/d Feline Dry represents less than one half of one percent of all Hill’s products.

Melamine is the plastic compound they found in the menu foods recall on 3/30/07 and is reported to be the cause of the problems. A rodentcide was also found in the menu foods samples by a New York lab but is not confirmed by the FDA yet.
Menu Foods is saying that they think the problem is Melamine and not the rodentcide.
The suspected source of the melamine is wheat gluten imported from China that both menu foods and Hills used at their seperate plants.

I am still waiting to hear if any more dry foods are involved or if they have finally tracked down all the chinesse wheat gluten that was contaminated.
