She is crying because she is six weeks old, she is not with her litter anymore, and she is being isolated outside. I do not say this to make you feel bad, I say because it is just the truth.
You are right, it isn't your fault someone thought it would be a great idea to give your daughter a puppy as a gift, especially such a young puppy. You are also right that all you can do now is be a responsible person and do what is right for your pup. Is there a particular reason the pup needs to stay outside when it gets bigger, other than the fact they are big? I mean, is the entire family away from home during the day? Is there someone home during the day who can have the pup inside with them? Or spend a great deal of time outside with her? They are happiest and best behaved when they are able to be part of the family. Dogs are pack animals and they want to be included in their family, not just sitting outside. I'm sure you do not do this to be intentionally cruel, I'm certain you are doing what you feel is the best you can, but any social animal that is isolated is not happy. She will eventually stop crying, not because she is happy with her situation but because she has accepted it and given up. I'm sorry if you feel attacked, but the answer to your question is simply not a happy one.
Nicely done.
