Having three dogs for the weekend, I noticed three very different behaviors relatively to petting or stroking. i.e.
HK will avoid a pat on the head 95% of the time, but she will aggressively position her rump for the nice rub. Even when she is all excited retrieving, she wants her pat on the rump, not her head. When in the mood she will roll over for a belly rub, this is primarily in the evening.
Newman will do everything he can to get his head under your hand, under any hand. At the dog park he is persistent at getting every person he sees to rub his head.
Louie (the cockapoo) on the other hand will wiggle anything he can to get you to pet his head, his rump. his back. Forget about getting him to roll over for a tummy rub, that would require too much settling down.
So, does your dog(s) prefer head, rump, tummy, other rubs?
